Monarchs drop 50-37 shootout with Cal Poly

Desmond Williams tries the outside.
One a perfect October evening in Norfolk, ODU dropped a 50-37 decision to nationally-ranked Cal Poly at Foreman Field. The Monarchs racked up over 440 yards of offense but it still wasn't enough to outpace the speedier Mustangs from San Luis Obispo, CA.

OB Andre Broadus kept the Monarch defense off balance all night with speed and a potent option offense.

ODU's swarming defense found itself chasing the play all too often when Mustang runners found a crease.

Cal Poly QB Andre Broadus sparked the Cal Poly offense, and when the Mustangs ran the option they got several breakaway runs. As Bear Bryant once said, "You can't coach speed."

RB Mario Crawford tries the left side.

A long night for Thomas DeMarco. He threw for 327 yards and four TDs, but the Mustang offense was prepared for his running game, and as you can see, they kept bodies on him all night. The Monarchs now enter a bye week to regroup.

A long night for this man. To his credit, the Monarchs never gave up.
A night full of just-missed opportunities, like this DeMarco pass to Dorian Jackson.
