Sara and Sam

A selection of images taken last Saturday at first Landing State Park with this happy couple. Sara and Sam are getting married on January 1, and we will be there! Took some of these images with a new lens, the Nikkor AF 135mm f/2 D DC. The "DC" stands for "defocus control," which means you can emphasize the degree of foreground or background blur (bokeh) beyond the sheer potential of a large aperture lens. It works beautifully, as you can see.

A Portrait video

Love me some Animoto. Easy to use, varied templates, nice results.

Studio shoot with Julia

Over time I have found that I really enjoy studio shooting. Which is a challenge, since I don't have a dedicated studio, and have to create one whenever I want to set up a studio situation. Labor intensive, but worth the effort.

Much prefer shooting people to products, but both provide the challenge of asking, "How do I see this differently?"

Julia is a young woman with whom I have worked before. She comes ready with makeup, props, wardrobe  and attitude, so creating pictures is easy, and we generate a lot of ideas.

Really enjoyed this shoot.

Torreo

Last year, while shooting a wedding, I met a young woman who was one of the bridesmaids and shot a nice candid of her. She asked me if she could get a copy, and I obliged, thinking that it never hurts to do something nice. The  I forgot about it. Thus I was surprised when she emailed me recently, about a year after the wedding, and asked if she could do some head shots for a modeling portfolio. These are some shots from our first session.

Food and drink at Kincaid's

Kincaid's at MacArthur Mall in Norfolk is working on a new publication, and my publisher friend called to set up an appointment. No spacious interiors, so lovingly-crafteed interiors of their bar, one of the most impressive in Hampton Roads. Just some cocktails and entrees.

A fine looking wine collection. I thought I heard some of the bottles asking me to adopt them.

Yes, it tastes as good as it looks!
