Winter Wonderland 2010

Certainly the largest snow I can recall in Norfolk since i moved here in 1983. Ironic how the big snow events hit others, but generally miss us, as we are insulated by the ocean. Not this time. And we're not done yet!

The view from my dining room window this morning. 

View from the street in the later morning, before the snow came down with a vengeance.

These trees are not used to carrying a burden of snow and bend mightily under the weight, creating new pathways for children, dogs and intrepid parents to explore.

Another interesting snow crated view. All of these photos either in front of my house or across the street.  Don't have to go far to see a lovely vista in a new way.

Last photo of the day, taken after I shoveled the walks and swept the car.  We don't get this often; must enjoy it when we do!

Been a while . . .

Actually had a co-worker ask me why I hadn't posted any pictures lately. That was nice to hear. The reason is, of course, end of semester running around, the holidays, and a number of other excuses not worthy of surfacing here.

Do you still send holiday cards? I found that it was hard for me to keep up with after a number of years as a single parent and I fell out of the habit. After a too-late start of poking around my libraries, I found these that Carmen and I shot at the beach with a handheld camera two years ago on Christmas day.

Katrina has a six year old son, named Maddox. This image really shows his attitude towards his soon-to-be sister. What a terrific little guy!

First Maternity Session

From session last weekend with Katrina and her family. Katrina and I worked on this after the family shots. I finally have this image about the way I wanted it.

I had never shot a maternity session prior to yesterday. I was pleased when Katrina, a colleague from a previous school-related episode, called me to see if I would be interested in doing some pictures. Seemed like a good opportunity to do something new.

New to me, anyhow. There are many good photographers who seem to specialize in photos of mothers and newborns. Some will wrap babies in cheesecloth and the link . . . seems pretty high-risk to me. In any event, there were no newborns in tow for this shoot. Just Katrina, and Jeremy, and Maddox, who is sharp as a tack for a six-year-old.

After we worked on some basic poses, Katrina was up for some other shots.
